Local History Book Signing with Dean McLeod,

Dean McLeod has a new book out in Arcadia's "Images of America" series, Port Chicago. He will be in the shop to sign copies of his book and talk about the "three great stories" of Port Chicago: the 1944 explosion of two munitions ships at the Navy dock adjacent to the town; the Port Chicago "mutiny" by African-American stevedores who refused to work under the same unsafe conditions that led to the explosion; and the controversy over the demolition of the town by the Navy in 1968.
Dean McLeod is the author of a previous Contra Costa local history book, Bay Point. He also works with the Bay Point Historical Society (which he helped found) and the Contra Costa County Historical Society.
